We begin by looking at the movement toward schools being Safe, Healthy and Supportive Learning Environments. A healthy, safe, and supportive learning environment enables students, adults, and even the school as a system to learn in powerful ways. Such an environment promotes innovation, inquiry, and risk taking. Moreover, such an environment reinforces and enhances the leadership capacity in the school because competent, excellent, and dedicated educators want to work under such conditions. Is your school fostering a healthy, safe, and supportive learning environment?

 

As a school leader, you are committed to quality, planning, organizing, directing, supervising, and evaluating. You will now know what effective management and mismanagement look like. This module should have caused you to reflect upon your emerging or existing management style. Perhaps you will agree that where possible, the best kind of decision making is participatory, shared, and reflective of school ownership. You are required to establish a significant school problem that requires resolution. This problem may relate to financial need, to curricular-related needs or to staff morale. Apply your knowledge of the five functions of management, management styles and inclusive decision making to solve your problems.
